I get asked a lot for tips on how to get better at art.
I have found that the best way to get better at anything is to do it every day.
If you are struggling to think of what to draw each day, or you are just breaking in this new ‘art habit’ of yours then try this, draw balls.
Doodle out a couple of spheres using a pencil, a biro or anything that comes to hand. Try and make them as round as possible. It may sound easy but getting something to look round when you have drawn it free hand is not the easiest thing in the world and the first few times that you try it I think that you will find it suitably difficult. Add hatching or shading to make it look 3D. Do this every day for a week.
‘Why should I do this?’ I hear you ask. Well, think of this type of task as like practicing a chip shot in golf. You are developing your technique and your ability to control the media that you are working with. Today you are warming up drawing a sphere, next week that could be the beginnings of a first rate eye or the curve of a shoulder…
